CHICAGO The Musical
METRO STAGE COMPANY
CAST (in order of appearance)
In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos
to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and
another "Merry Murderess" Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of
the "American Dream": fame, fortune and acquittal. The story is a satire based on the corruption in the administration
of criminal justice and the logic of a “celebrity criminal”. Chicago is based on a 1926 play by reporter Maurine Dallas
Watkins about the crimes and criminals she reported on. The basis of the Chicago play came from Maurine’s
Chicago Tribune coverage of the 1924 trials of Beulah Annan & Belva Gaertner.
